You address a weakness of democracy: political engagement. I view the result of this election as follows:
- Trump was successful in radicalizing more people as he won more votes than 4 years ago.
- More democrats got galvanized to vote this time round out of fear for another 4 years of descent into fascism;
- Even in extreme times, 1/3 of the US population has no interest/belief in voting for either of the 2 candidates the system presents to them.
The American 2-party system, just 1 party more than China, simply does not represent the diversity of peoples’ needs and objectives. It is also easy to manipulate, and perpetuates the status quo. Biden is not the answer. A more diverse political system, with more parties, possibly requiring coalitions, might be a good 1st step towards a more equitable representation.
