Would Republicans entertain the same arguments if we showed the same Trump speech, word for word, but we replaced Trump with Obama, saying the exact same words to a BLM crowd that then storms the Capitol?
There would be no outrage under Republicans? No call for the 25th? No impeachment? They would say that ‘process needs to be followed’? ‘That the President did not incite violence?’, etc.
At the start of his presidency he said that he could shoot someone in plain daylight on Fifth Avenue and it wouldn’t cost him a single vote.
I for one did not believe him. But I did believe that, as a populist with disdain for all institutions, civility and decency, he would do his best to feed human’s lowest instincts. I believed that he would eschew all presidential responsibilities. This President, I believed, would not undertake stragic actions to guide the US and the world to a safer, healthier and more prosperous place, because he would only want lap-dogs in his team. Which would be survivable, if sub-optimal, if the autocrat were astute, intelligent and capable. Not the case here. This President has such a Dunning-Krüger syndrome, that when he recognizes a doctor by his white coat, he thinks that makes him an expert in virology. He would make erratic decisions on the fly, and fire anyone who would express a different point of view from his, for example virologists. An egocentric baby. An autocratic baby. The only time he should have acted autocratically (after having learned from the best experts) was with the corona virus. But the baby’s toys were waiting for him. The only action he took…
