Terrorism: the Media’s bomb under our society.
The latest ‘terrorist’ attack in France (Nice, France: 3 dead) reverberates around the world. Every news outlet opened with it today. Why?
People are killed everyday, but only very few killings make the national news, not to mention international news. A gang-member, a burglar, an abduction, a deranged-driver, etc. None of such murders make it past the local news let alone achieves national and international attention. The reality is that a random killing by a random deranged individual, often a repressed, disturbed male youngster, gets international attention because he shouts ‘Allah Akbar’.
That’s when the Media and politicians jump on it, calling it ‘an Islamist terrorist attack’. So one troubled young individual goes on a killing spree shouting ‘Allah Akbar’, the next we have ‘an Islamist terror attack’.
It goes without saying that such senseless murder is tragic and that this affects victims and their families, and possibly friends and family of the deranged assailant.
But not every deranged attack has a qualified political motivation and should be labeled as ‘terrorist’. I would argue that most of these so-called lone wolf attacks are from frustrated, problematic, disoriented, lonely individuals with psychological disorders who want to express their sad unhappiness though some imaginary self-created heroic drama…
