Double bind — If there’s only 2 parties it takes only 1 to demonize the other and whatever the other one does, it’s actions, policies or representatives will be interpreted through the demonic lens.

Then the other one does the same and it’s “Welcome to America the Greatest Democracy On Earth!”

The one who most recently embarked on this extreme polarization was Trump when he started to refer to liberals without fail as ‘the radical left’.

Trump though, is not the problem. A ‘democracy’ consisting of just 2 parties is.

With just 2 parties, if one party decides to lower the bar to street-fighting levels, such as calling the other party names (childish for sure, but it sets the tone for the non-thinking followers), the other finds itself in a double-bind: lower yourself to street-fighting but you are not good at it, or keep the moral/intellectual high-ground and be perceived as weazeling out.

Even just 1 more party in this Great US Democracy would make this a more serious game and much more complicated to manipulate.

Biden won’t fix that either. Yet there’s no other option.

Poor America, it’s such a sad parody of a democracy.
