Hmmm, sometimes I think 2-side-ism goes too far. This article is one of those times.

'The system is rigged' is not on the same level as, let’s say: 'China unleashed Covid because they wanted to bring me down’.

The former is a claim that can be argued based in facts and using logic. That doesn’t make the claim true, but it makes it an argument, valid, strong or not. The better the factual research (depth, breadth) and the stronger the logic , the stronger the argument.

The latter is a claim without supporting facts. Such a radical claim requires a lot of substantiation, but none are given. Such an argument is invalid, and a waste of time.

Equating valid arguments with invalid ones (such as blatant conspiracy theories that lack factual substantiation and logic) makes sphere-earthers and flat-earthers 2 sides of the same coin. It equates reason with stupidity.

The politician knows that the stupid vote is easy to get, no facts or logic required. Conspiracy theories fit that bill.

No, the Republican Party is not the other side of the same political coin. The Democratic Party does not launch a Covid conspiracy nor Dominion-voting conspiracy or White Replacement Theory which all contribute to the erosion if not outright destruction of that the delicate social fabric that holds a capitalist, free democracy together. It doesn’t make the Democratic party a good or truth-bound party, but its arguments and actions fall within the framework of reason.

That simply cannot be said for the Republican Party, that refers to itself as the Grand Old Party (no wonder it gets a leader who refers to himself as a stable genius). I digress. The Republican Party flocks to where it can reap the easy votes. No matter the absurdity of the claims nor of their damaging consequences.

For them "Stop Pence certifying the election or you won’t have a country left" is just Free Speech and the ensuing storming of the Capitol causing death and destruction as well as tarnishing the prestige of American democracy, becomes 'it was just a tourism tour’’. Grim reaping indeed.

There is a substantive difference between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. Only one operates within the boundaries of reason.

(Also, if I may, the fact that social security checks are being deposited in one’s account has no bearing on the possibly devastating consequences of a US default, leaving aside that the check may become worthless sooner)

Respectfully,
Mitch
