Excellent argument. Just to add another perspective to your argument (which I agree with, btw) : Unfortunately it took 40 years to get people to understand what smoking does to the body, it took 50 years to understand that human exploitation of natural resources causes devastating climate change and that expanding consumerism poisons our environment. We still smoke, we still burn fossil fuels and poison nature with our plastics. The 'right' virus can wipe-out humanity in a lot less than 40 years. Listening to all tobacco-, climate-deniers and anti-vaxxers before moving foward, would be like starting to explain the phyisics of velocity and mass to a 2-year-old sitting on the railway and acknowledging each and every burp and fart of the 2-year-old and waiting for it to decide to stand up and move out of the way whilst the train is storming full-steam ahead. Or...we don't give a shit about what the baby thinks feels or wants and we grab it and throw out of harms way.
