After reading Lester’s excellent article and Matt’s comment (and having very little knowledge of the historical facts myself), I am not sure why these views would be juxtaposed. Aren’t the motivations for such a war complex and varied? Self-interest, perceived identity and moral values seem to always be drivers for confrontation. The moral values often appear to be modeled by self-interest and identity. In conclusion my starting takeaway is that Matt’s comment adds value to Lester’s excellent article.
